TGCC MENTOR’S PROGRAM
National Kitchen & Bath Association

Our goal is that the TGCC-NKBA Mentor's Program will help advance participant’s career goals and also strengthen the manner in which our chapter benefits its members.

The right influence and guidance could make a world of difference in helping a new designer, student, or K&B industry worker have a successful, enjoyable, and profitable Kitchen & Bath (K&B) career.  Being a mentor to new industry members can be quite personally rewarding as you share your knowledge and learn more about current trends and tools in the industry through this program.

There is no application process; however, please fill out and return an information sheet to us so that we may best match our mentors and mentees.

Let us know if you will join us in this effort to further help shape the Kitchen & Bath Industry.  The deadline to match up all mentors and mentees is December 1, 2017
The mentor's program will officially begin on December 5, 2017 with the announcing of all mentor program participants.

A terrific opportunity (for mentors and mentees) to meet up would be at our Holiday Social and Charity Event which will be held at Walker Zanger.  There is no cost to attend this meeting and it should be a fun social event. Register to attend this meeting here.

The process for participation in this program is outlined in this flyer.  The mentoring program information packet is also available online at: www.TexasGulfCoast-NKBA.org (Participate Link)

So, if possible, please make plans to attend our December 5th meeting.  We look forward to seeing you at our meetings and to your participation in our ongoing programs.

Mentors:  Will you agree to be a mentor to a TGCC new K&B designer, industry worker, or student?  You qualify to be a mentor if you have demonstrated success in your career as a K&B industry independent designer or remodeler; a showroom owner, manager, designer, or worker; K&B industry sales or trades rep; K&B educator; and/or a retired K&B career person.

Note:  Mentors act in a non-professional helping capacity to provide career-based insights on developing K&B careers.

Mentees:  Mentees (individuals desiring to be mentored) qualify to participate in the program if you are currently enrolled in a college design program or a new designer of five years or less looking for inside knowledge on how to succeed in the K&B industry.  Mentoring will involve:

  1. Access to a friendly, knowledgeable, experienced, helpful K&B industry person with a sympathetic hear
  2. A bit of non-professional guidance in career paths

Basic Mentoring Guidelines (for mentors and mentees):

  1. Mentors & Mentees must be active members of the Texas Gulf Coast Chapter-NKBA and will participate in the program voluntarily.
  2. Mentees and mentors will be matched up appropriately based on career interest by the TGCC program administrators.
  3. There will be a suggested one-year commitment to the program. A maximum of one or two hours a month to talk or correspond with one another (including electronically).
  4. No financial obligations are required or expected.
  5. One initial brief meeting (10-15 min meeting -- in person).
  6. Possibly meeting up in-person once or twice a year at a chapter meeting or for lunch. Email or phone contact with questions regarding career directions, job related challenges, etc. (as determined by all) will be ongoing during the year.
  7. Ideas on finding internships, jobs leads, interviewing tips, the importance of networking and attending trade shows and meetings, sharing new uses for technology, tips how to start your own business, fiscal responsibility when dealing with clients, etc.
  8. Provide the TGCC program administrators with an update or input on your experience after six months in the program.
